Vetcare Oy donates to University of Helsinki Faculty of Veterinary Medicines Residency Training
"It is very difficult to change the world without close collaboration with the academic community," says Olli Kuussaari, CEO of Vetcare Oy, commenting on the donation made to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Vetcare Oy has donated €160,000 to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Helsinki. This donation will support a four-year residency training in clinical reproductive medicine.
"This donation is a logical continuation of our long-standing partnership with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, especially in the field of reproductive sciences," says Olli Kuussaari, CEO of Vetcare Oy.
"The University of Helsinki is a natural partner for us, providing comprehensive research knowledge and insights for our development projects, as well as facilitating exchange of ideas."
Thanks to Vetcare's donation, a new specialist will be trained in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Finland
"Vetcare is a key partner for us. We collaborate in various areas of clinical veterinary science, and this donation is a visible and valuable part of that partnership," says Olli Peltoniemi, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The residency program will focus on canine reproduction, particularly addressing significant global issues related to ethics and animal welfare, such as sterilization of female dogs.
"In collaboration with Vetcare, we have developed alternative methods to surgical sterilization, including hormone-related techniques used in humans as well," explains Peltoniemi.
The residency training is part of international and European specialist education. The impact of the received donation will extend to international networks and the training of new experts.
"We refer to our specialized veterinarians as diplomats. They will pay it forward in the future by educating more specialized veterinarians," Peltoniemi describes.
Donating to science is an intelligent way to combine resources
Olli Kuussaari sees donating to science as an opportunity for companies, commercial organizations and universities to help each other.
"Finland is a small country, and we have a lot of expertise here, so it makes sense to collaborate," he emphasizes.
For Vetcare Oy, close collaboration with the academic community is highly important. "Without it, it is very challenging to change the world," he emphasizes. "This partnership is also inspiring for us. We stay in touch with the pulse of science.”
