Proccanius - science behind it

The science behind Proccanius®

The story of Proccanius® begins with a Finnish microbiologist and her first dog, the lovely border-collie named Denny.

Ironically for a dog with a never-ending appetite, Denny had a sensitive tummy ever since he was a puppy. This poor dog could get an upset stomach for up to a couple of weeks if he ate anything other than his dry dog food. Eager to find help for her dog, microbiologist began researching canine-derived lactic acid bacteria in the University of Helsinki.

With lactic acid bacteria, quality beats quantity

The research group quickly made interesting discoveries:

Dogs with sensitive guts had no lactic acid bacteria at all.

Dogs with normal guts had small amounts of several different strains of bacteria.

In dogs with cast-iron stomachs, it was quality over quantity as they had only one dominant strain of lactic acid bacteria.

The research paved the way for an innovation that would end up helping not only Denny – but thousands of dogs around the world.

Proccanius® – Wellbeing for dogs, from dogs

Following rigorous scientific research, a product was made that had never been introduced to the market before: Proccanius®, the first canine product with three important live Lactobacillus strains isolated from healthy dogs.

What makes Proccanius® so uniquely suited to dogs?

  • It is known that through evolution, each species has developed lactic acid bacteria strains of its own.

  • That is why dogs benefit the most from lactic acid bacteria of canine origin.
